I Never Saw Another Butterfly

This is the butterfly that I created based on my poem “An Evening In Terezin”. This poem was created by a child who lived through WW2. This poem was even created during the holocaust in a concentration camp! These are the messages hidden within my butterfly based on the poem.

Disappearances; Book Blog #5

Dead Upon A Time is a mystery book written by Elizabeth Paulson. Published in 2015.

Dead Upon A Time is a book about this girl named Kate Hood based in the medieval times. One day she finds that her grandmother has gone missing. She goes crazy looking for her until she calms down and tries to find a solution. She finds herself crossing paths with her old friend Jake, and even the king! Not only has her grandmother gone missing but so has the Kings daughter Ella. The King has put them in charge of finding Princess Ella. Even though Ellas stepmother would rather have them not. My favorite part of the book would probably have to be when Kate first arrived to her Grandmothers house realizing she was no longer there. She went into the village where no one helped her. There are more kidnappings that have been forgotten about. Who is behind these disappearance? Do they ever get found and brought back home safely? Are they dead? Read to find out. (:

The main character is very brave yet lashes out in fear and worrysome at times. Kate Hood is an orphan but its complicated. She doesnt live with her foster parents anymore. She always ran away from them. Instead she lives with her Grandmother and takes care of her, well before she went missing. Kate was seen as an uncommon girl in school. On page 64 she tries to scare off guards by lying to them that she was an uncommon, “‘You ought to listen you beau,’ Kate dared to ask ‘You don’t believe in the Uncommon?’”  Uncommon is what they use as insult, it means witch. Shes more of an outcast. The village hates her and her grandmother. On page 3 it states that “the citizens of Shepherd’s Grove had been only too happy to see Nan put down roots good distance away.” She also has big red curly hair.

I like this book because it’s different. I’m sure there’s probably tons of books with a similar concept in this time era but this one just seems different. The whole plot of the book just interests me. Every chapter or so there’s something new. I’m the type of person who gets bored from a book easily and books like these that keep it exciting are my favorite. The theme of this book I’m guessing is just to be brave and keep what you love close to you. I would definitely recommend Dead Upon A Time to a friend and/or whoever is reading this.

The Body of Christopher Creed

The first book I started reading this quarter was The Body of Christopher Creed by Carol Plum-ucci. Of course as you guys already know I love mystery books, so this book was obviously gonna be In the mystery genere.
This book is told from perspective of, now senior, Torey Addams. In this book he goes back to tell the story, or more so recap, on his Junior year at his hometown Steepleton in southern New Jersey. During this year Christopher Creed went missing. Torey wouldn't call him his friend. Christopher was more like a peer. He's been in his life since the beginning. Yet they barely even spoke to each other. Christopher was more like the punching bag for many of Torey's friends and classmates. From the beginning details on the disappearance are iffy. Chris disappeared without a trace! Was it a suicide? No, maybe it was a murder. Or it could have just been an abtuction. He could have also just ran away. You'll just have to read to find out.
Main character Torey Addams is hard to describe with one word. He was one of the popular kids. Had a perfect life. He had a beautiful girlfriend, good grades, was on the football team, played in a band with his best friends and had no family problems. Things started to mess up around the disappearance of Chris. He started to question himself more. Things started turning upside down for him. He no longer knew who he was. Was he still good old Torey or was he now a weird outcast? On page 194 Torey states "My life wasn't perfect anymore. And especially since all this came down with Creed. I just feel different from everybody else all of a sudden. Like it's this giant secret and one day somebody's going to realize{it like}... 'Everybody take a long look at Torey Addams! He's weird! And we just never realized it!' And the truth will come out."
I loved this book. The whole time I was on the edge of my seat just waiting for the next big secret to be revealed. I loved how the author gave us so much detail into the lives of smaller characters to show us that maybe Steepleton wasn't as perfect as it is thought to be. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

#ONEWORD2018

Family

         People always say family always comes first. Yet I don't always put family first. I don't really talk to my family very often, and I wanna change that this year. I wanna connect more to my family. I wanna chose to hang out with my sister more often than my friends. I wanna stop being rude to my brother when he annoys me. I wanna talk more to my oldest brother, who I barley even say hi to on a daily basis. I wanna go to the movies more with my mom and tell her more about my life. I wanna talk to my dad when he comes back from a long day at work. I wanna change all this throughout the course of this year. One word could mean so much. So I chose the one word that could include all of that. All of the things I wanna change this year. I don't want to be awkward or shy with my family anymore. They are my blood, I am their family, and I shouldn't be afraid to socialize or be myself with them.

Brick House

Ive always thought of my perfect house. The house that I will live in for the rest of my life. The perfectly beautiful house that I will raise my future 3 kids. One girl and 2 Boys. The house where I will host Christmas for all my family. I would have to live in a brick house. If it's not red brick I'm not buying it. It has to be 3 floors. A basement, that will have carpet even though I know it will be hard to keep clean, where the kids will play. The main floors where the kitchen, living room and dining room will be. All dark hardware floors. The stair lead up to the bed rooms. There must be at least 3 bed room, maybe even 4. If there are 3 rooms the 2 boys will get the second biggest room since they will be sharing of course. The master bedroom will be of course for my husband and I. The 3rd room will be for the girl. There will be 2 bathrooms. One on the main floor and one on the second floors. I want to have one cat or one dog. Maybe one of each! Also need a garage for my future perfect car! (:

Whatever Happened to Janie?

The sequel to The Face on the Milk Carton; spoilers may be ahead

   How did the Springs family go through what they did? How could they possibly go 12 years knowing their little girl might be in a ditch somewhere dead, or alive and being tortured? How would it affect them to know that she was alive and happy? This book is from the perspective of both Janie and Jodie, Jennie Springs older sister. If you wish to find out how the Springs and Johnsons both take this life changing situation in you should read "Whatever Happened to Janie?".

   This mystery series has got to be one of the best I've read by far. Once you read a couple of pages you will be hooked in by the mystery of Jennie Springs sudden disappearance. There's one problem after another. Janie is a just a teenager who was suddenly pushed into a swirl of different emotions and life changing situations. There were definitely moments in the book where I thought to myself what I would do. There is also a third, fourth and even a fifth book to the series! The next book in the series is called "The Voice on the Radio". I also recently found out there is a movie! I will definitely be watching the movie, after I finish reading the series of course!

The Face on The Milk Carton

Janie Johnson lives her everyday life as a 16 year old attending high school, going to her classes, getting ready to start driving and having a crush on her neighbor/best friend Reeve. She's the only child to her caring and loving parents Frank and Miranda Johnson. She has a ordinary life.. or so she thought. One day while at school she took her friends Milk Carton. To her surprise she finds the missing child on the carton to be herself. Her four year old self. In this book she investigates deeper and deeper into the kid napping of Jennie Spring. Could it really be her? Did her parents kidnap her? Is she just being parinoid? Read this book to find out.

Party Girl

Party Girl was an amazing book! It was suggested to me by one of my fellow classmates and friend Karina Giraldo. Party Girl is about this girl name Kata and her best friend Ana. Ana is really all that Kata had because her moms sick, depressed and she's never met her dad. Katas mom is struggling both financially and she's also bringing a new guy home all of the time. Kata has to take care of her mom. When Ana dies Kata is confused about what to do now or how she will live on with her life. They were both involved in a gang. Now Kata is left alone to find out what she wants to do.

75% To Go

Quarter one. Ahhh some good memories, some bad, some mixed emotions and.. wait what am I even saying Quarter one went amazing! There were sometime where I might have been tired and not been playing much attention but I always caught up. I'm pretty happy with my grades, I've worked hard to get them and I'm proud I guess you could say. I also have a test in ELA that no matter how many time I redo it I keep getting 7/10! So I guess you could say that's kind of a bummer. Besides that Quarter one wasn't really hard and I really enjoyed it. I didn't really join any clubs. I told myself I would join Cross Country and Me to We. I didn't join Cross Country because I didnt have my physical, and I just keep forgetting that Wednesdays after school is Me to We!

Book to Movie (The Outsiders)

Similarities
These are some similarities from the film and the novel. The drive in movie scene was almost exactly the same as it was written in the novel. While watching the movie I even recognized some of the same lines that were said between Cherry and Dally. Another thing that was similar between both was Johnny's death scene. Right before Johnny died he pulled Ponyboy close and said “Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold”.

Differences
These are some differences between the movie and the novel. In the novel it only mentions Ponyboy having a dream in the past, but in the movie he has a dream everytime he falls asleep. Another thing is that in the beginning of the novel he gets beat up by socs, but in the beginning of the movie he just walks around town with Johnny and Dally. One last thing that was different was when Dally got shot by the cops and died, the Greasers were already with him, but in the movie the greasers got there as he died.

Evaluation
One big thing that really bothered me about the movie was they didn't involve Sodapop in the movie as much as they did in the novel. Johnny wasn't anything like what I thought he would look like in the movie, but overall I think the director choice good characters for The Outsiders. Another character I was iffy about in the movie was Marcia. She looked nothing like I thought she would look and it's the same thing with the personality. I also wasn't really happy with who they chose the play Bob.

IT

    The movie IT was great!! I can't believe some people don't like it. Sure there might not be as many jump scares as there was anticipated in the trailer but it was still great. They did an amazing job really giving a lot of detail about the main characters (the losers club). One of my personal favorite characters is Richie Tozier. I love this characters sense of humor, and we can relate because one of my own biggest fears are clowns too. That's not the only reason why I love Richie so much but it is also because he is played by Finn Wolfhard. One of my favorite actors of all time. He is an extraordinary actor, playing huge roles like in Stranger Things as Mike or in IT playing Richie. He also had a small part in Supernatural in season 11 episode 5. Finn Wolfhard is also my celebrity crush. HINT, HINT, he's only 14 just like me!

Equality

         One of my favorite quotes and one of the most memorable quote ever to me is from Eminem. Eminem might not be known as the kindest person ever but this quote kinda relates me to.

 "I don't care if you're black, white, straight, bisexual, gay, lesbian, short, tall, fat, skinny, rich or poor. If you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you. Simple as that." -Eminem

I really love this quote because it's saying that no matter who you are, or where you are from I will treat you the same way you treat me. There's no big racist or sexist meaning behind why I treat you the way I do. It's just treat me the same you want to be treated. Hey, that connects to an old quote that I remember hearing all the time in elementary.

"Treat others the way you want to be treated"

Both of those quotes are basically the same. It's just the first quote by Eminem has more details.

Bug Cereal

When I was about 8 years old when I decided that today, I would eat cereal for breakfast. I would soon regret this decision. I got my bowl, spoon and milk. Future me is screaming "Don't pick up that cereal!" but of course I still chose.... Cinnamon... Toast.. Crunch. I'll never even see it coming. I turned on the T.V. to spongebob and began digging in. Yum, yum, yum, crunch, crunch, crunch. Oh no.. As I looked down there it was. A bug. A dead bug.
    I ran to the bathroom as fast as I could  and I threw it all up. All of it. I was forever scared after that. It was almost as that moment I found the bug was engraved into my mind. It took me a couple of months after that to eat cereal. Cinnamon Toast Crunch alone took me 6 years. Even now 6 years later I hate bugs and always will.

10 years from now..

   Ten years from now I wanna live in Seattle, for sure without a a doubt. Its always kinda chilly and raining in Seattle. Which is great because love the rain. Long sleeves, jackets, and sweaters are always my favorite and are also my go to's so its kinda easier to wear those when its cold. Specifically I wanna live in a red brick apartment building. I've always loved brick and especially red brick. The building also has to allow pets. If not dogs atleast a cat or ferret.
  I will be living with my best friend or future boyfriend. I will also own a cat and dog. Both from a shelter. If the building doesn't allow either of those I wanna own a ferret. I've always thought those were cute. I will also eventually want kids but that's 15 or 16 years in the future not 10. When I do have kids though I want one boy and one girl ideally. The boy will be named Barry or Charlie. The girl will be named Georgie, Penelope, or Meredith.
  For my job I want to be a math teacher, peds surgeon, or astronomer. I would want to be a math teacher because I really love math and it just always has really interested me so I would love to help people learn more of it. I would want to be a peds surgeon because I love children and I would love to help and save their life. I would love to become an astronomer to study and help discover more things about outerspace.
   Obviously in 10 years I wanna be done with college. I want to and hopefully will be able to go to Boston College. This is where my sister went and ever since I visited 2 years ago for her graduation Ive been determined to go there. It'll take a lot of work but it'll be worth it all in the end.
